One of the country’s preeminent experts on the impact of technological innovation, Thomas E. Vass is a regional economist and investment advisor.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Vass holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science and a Masters in Regional Planning, with a concentration on
regional economic development and labor market theory.
In 1975, Vass became an economic advisor to the Board of Directors of B.C. Hydro and Power Authority in Vancouver, British Columbia. Vass returned to North Carolina in 1977 and
accepted a position as economic advisor to the state Department of Labor. In 1984, Vass became an investment consultant for E. F. Hutton and in 1988, opened his own registered
advisory corporation, Business & Family Financial Strategies, Inc. Vass developed a patented proprietary portfolio management methodology, and was cited in The Wealth Equations as one of the top 100 private managers in the country.
A member of the North Carolina Chapter of the Product Development Management Association, the Raleigh Public Relations Society, and the North Carolina Technology Association, Vass organized and served as the first President of the North Carolina Investment Advisers Association. Vass also co-founded the North Carolina Fathers for Equal Rights, an
advocacy group for mediation in cases of divorce involving minor children. Vass has authored a number of publications on such topics as economic development, history, political philosophy and marketing theory. He is a frequent contributor to a number of professional journals and daily newspapers.
