Heinz Company said recently it is providing monetary and in-kind assistance for the relief and recovery efforts in China's Sichuan Province following the devastating earthquake that hit the region on Monday. Heinz operates a factory in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, which produces frozen appetizers, dim sum and desserts under the Long Fong brand name. "While we are thankful that none of our employees or their family members were injured during the earthquake, our hearts go out to the thousands of victims of this tragic event," said William R. Johnson, Heinz Chairman, President and CEO. "We feel it is our moral obligation as a corporate citizen in Sichuan to do whatever we can to help bring comfort and relief to those who have been impacted by this catastrophe."

Smoothie chain Jamba Juice (NASDAQ: JMBA) said recently it will close 10 underperforming stores and cut 53 workers in a reorganization aimed at cutting costs. The company said the job cuts will be in support positions. Jamba Juice will close 10 underperforming company-owned stores in 2008 and end 7 signed leases for unbuilt stores. It had 726 stores, 515 of which were company owned, as of April 22. The company will take a restructuring charge in the fiscal second-quarter of about $750,000 to reflect the job cuts. It said it did not have an estimate for charges related to the store closures and lease terminations.

The vice president of agricultural products company Archer Daniels Midland Co. (NYSE: ADM) sold 11,154 shares of common stock, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Wednesday. In a Form 4 filed with the SEC, Mark Cheviron reported he sold the shares Tuesday for $43.20 to $43.21 apiece. Insiders file Form 4s with the SEC to report transactions in their companies' shares. Open market purchases and sales must be reported within two business days of the transaction.
