Coeur d'Alene Mines Corp. (NYSE:CDE) (CDE) plans to upgrade the electrical infrastructure of its Cerro Bayo mine in southern Chile, resulting in a temporary suspension of mining operations for about six weeks.
The Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, mining company reduced its previous 2008 production forecast of 2.5 million ounces of silver and 40,000 ounces of gold by 180,000 ounces and 4,000 ounces, respectively, due to the suspension. The revised expectation is 2.32 million ounces of silver and 36,000 ounces of gold this year.
The company expects production and costs at Cerro Bayo to significantly improve from 2007 as a result of implementing the recovery plan at the mine.
