Pioneer Surgical Technology, a Michigan company that manufactures a portfolio of spinal medical devices, has signed up Bonovo Orthopedics, Inc. to distribute its products in China. Bonova is a China manufacturer and distributor of orthopedic products, which is based in Arizona. Bonovo plans to introduce Pioneer’s spine products in November at the Chinese Orthopedic Association meeting in SuZhou, China.
Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
Pioneer began marketing its first product, surgical wire, in 1992. It has gone on to develop a wide range of orthopedic and spinal devices, which it sells in Europe. Its products are being evaluated for use in the US. According to Wikipedia, the privately owned company has 300 employees and generated $150 million in revenue in 2007. In 2007, Pioneer made two acquisitions that took the company into the biologics sector. Angstrom Medica brought with it an FDA approved nanotechnology device, NanOss™, an osteoconductive product that can remodel over time into human bone. Encelle developed a tissue regeneration product built around E-Matrix™, a sterile, injectable biopolymer.
Pioneer moved into the spinal market in 2004, when it introduced its initial spinal product, the Quantum Spinal Rodding System. In this sector, Pioneer now offers minimally invasive rodding, mini-open rodding, vertebral spacers, cervical plates, and biologics.
Bonovo Orthopedics, Inc. has more than 15 years of experience manufacturing orthopedic products, with over 150 employees, 2 manufacturing facilities, and a distribution network in China.
