BioCurex Inc. (OTCBB:
BOCX), headquartered in the Vancouver area, has completed the
incorporation process for a fully-owned subsidiary, BioCurex China, which will
be sited in Shanghai. The new company will operate initially as a clinical
laboratory that will perform cancer tests, using BioCurex’s proprietary RECAF™
technology.
The receptor for alpha-fetoprotein (RECAF) is found on
malignant cells of a variety of cancer cell types but is absent in most normal
and benign cells. Some of the receptors find their way into the blood stream. In
initial tests, RECAF has detected the presence of blood-borne cancerous cells
with 90% sensitivity and 95% selectivity in many of the most common cancers,
including prostate, breast, colorectal, lung and others.
BioCurex has
signed semi-exclusive licenses to market automated RECAF tests with Abbott Labs
(NYSE:
ABT) and Inverness Medical Innovations, Inc. BioCurex says
these licenses will ultimately produce the most revenues for RECAF. However, the
automated RECAF products from these companies must be approved by relevant
authorities before being marketed. The China office with its manual tests will
yield revenues more quickly and, at the same time, allow entry into the world’s
largest cancer market.
BioCurex said that one of its former scientists,
who has returned to his former home of Shanghai, will navigate the technical and
regulatory requirements in China.
Once established in Shanghai, BioCurex
said it will expand into other large China cities. A manual test, the company
noted, is an efficient solution in countries with limited resources and low
labor costs. Automated testing equipment is usually too expensive for these
markets. Later, BioCurex will offer finished kits to other laboratories through
China.
