Retail Survey: Nike Is Tops Among Teenage Shoppers at Dick's

Nike is the best selling brand of shoe among teenagers, according to TickerMine's recent poll of Dick's Sporting Goods stores. Seventy-seven percent of stores polled cited Nike as the top brand, outperforming New Balance, Converse, Puma, Reebok, and Umbro. The top selling items at Dick's, in addition to Nike products, are golf, fishing, and baseball equipment. Forty-two percent of stores polled said store traffic had increased over recent weeks; another 42% said business has remained about the same, while 16% said it has decreased. Half of the stores said there are more items on sale this month than last month. Teenagers buying shoes and men buying golf or camping equipment are the most frequent Dick's shoppers. Sixty-two percent of stores polled said the average customer spends between $40 and $80 on shoes. Thirty-eight percent of stores said the average customer spends $90 to $100.

Nike Shoes Are Among The Most Popular Items Purchased At Dicks Sporting Goods

Tickermine surveyed thirty-one Dick’s Sporting Goods stores across the county to ask about their top selling items, their customers and how business is faring compared to last year. The top three selling items were reported as Nike shoes, fishing gear and golf supplies, with twenty-one stores (68%) reporting Nike shoes as their best selling shoe brand for its teenage customers. Other top selling shoe brands included, Adidas at four stores (13%) and Timberland at two (6%). Fourteen stores (45%) stated that business has increased from last year whereas six (19%) reported that it had decreased. With regard to sale items, twenty stores (65%) reported a busy month of sales with twenty-one stores (68%) stating that the average amount spent by any one customer is between $40-$80. Five stores (16%) reported their average customer spends over $120. When asked who are their most frequent buyers and what do they buy, a range of responses were received. Men buy golf and other sporting goods, women purchase clothing, and teenagers buy shoes.
