The next market session will close:

San Jose, California-based Tessera Technologies, Inc. (TSRA) licenses its proprietary advanced integrated chip (IC) packaging technology to semiconductor manufacturers, assemblers and material suppliers. The company does not produce any semiconductors but rather licenses the use of proprietary Intellectual Property (IP) associated with their packaging technology.

Tessera's advanced packaging technologies have industry-wide application. September quarter top-line results beat consensus estimates while the bottom-line missed. The licensing business has very attractive operating leverage characteristics.

The firm has won five major lawsuits and now receives royalties from all of the big four in the DRAM market. The firm is approaching an important legal decision on December 1st as the International Trade Commission is set to issue a ruling in the wireless case.

The suit involves the company's patent infringement motion against Motorola (MOT), Freescale (FSL), Spansion (SPSN) and Qualcomm (QCOM). We continue to rate shares of TSRA a Buy.
