Stocks Drift In Friday's Regular Session, But Hold Week's Strong Gains

The U.S. markets spent much of the regular session recovering from an early sell-off and ultimately ended near the even mark, holding solid gains for the week. Better-than-expected quarterly results from leaders in the technology and financial sectors buoyed sentiment as well as rash of economic data, that while not particularly positive, suggested some signs of improvement in the sickly U.S. economy.


Next week, earnings season marches on with several big names on tap with numbers. On Monday, Texas Instruments ( ) will report results. Tuesday will bring quarterly reports from AMD ( ), Apple ( ), Caterpillar ( ), Starbucks ( ) and Yahoo ( ). On Wednesday, financials are expected from eBay ( ), Qualcomm ( ), Boeing (BA), and Wells Fargo ( ).
