US stocks finished with losses on Monday as investors preferred to book profits after witnessing strong rally in the past few sessions.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 32.12 points or 0.34% to finish at 9,337.95. The S&P 500 retreated 3.38 points or 0.33% to end at 1,007.10. The Nasdaq Composite declined 8.01 points or 0.40% to 1,992.24.
Shares of 3mCo. (NYSE:
) plunged $1.99 or 2.73% to $70.91.
Shares of Alcoa Inc. (NYSE:
), the largest US aluminum maker, lost 31 cents or 2.38% to close at $12.69.
Airplane maker Boeing Co. (NYSE:
) tumbled 92 cents or 1.97% to $45.77.
Shares of the networking giant Cisco Systems (NASDAQ:
) slid 55 cents or 2.48% to end at $21.64.
Among gainers, shares of McDonald's (NYSE:
) jumped $1.07 or 1.94% to $56.27. Early on Monday, McDonald's announced that global same-store sales climbed 4.3% in July.
Shares of chipmaker Intel Corp. (NASDAQ:
) rose 26 cents or 1.41% to $18.76.
Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:
) climbed 82 cents or 1.37% to $60.72. Merck & Co. (NYSE: MRK) gained 50 cents or 1.66% to $30.60.
Priceline.com Inc.(NASDAQ:
) announced Monday that its second-quarter net income rose to $67 million, or $1.38 a share, from $49.8 million, or $1 a share, in the year earlier period.
