Winners and Losers
Major market ETFs, including the SPY, DIA, UYG and others, are
mostly firmer, getting a boost from the broader market on mergers and
acquisitions news. Stocks are so far setting up for early gains, after
Xerox (XRX) says it will buy Affiliated Computer Services (ACS) in a
$6.4 billion deal and a handful of healthcare companies made some
smaller purchases.
The PowerShares QQQ (QQQQ), which tracks the technology-studded
Nasdaq Composite, is up 0.7% this morning, also helped by the M&A
news.
Technology Select Sector SPDR (XLK) is flat in light volume after
dipping in extended-hours trading. iShares U.S. Technology (IYW) should
see increased interest closer to the opening bell. iShares S&P
North American Technology Semiconductor (IGW) and Semiconductor HOLDRs
(SMH) also could see increased interest closer to the bell.
ACS is up more than 21% in premarket action after XRX says it will
pay 4.935 XRX shares and $18.60 in cash for each share of ACS, totaling
$63.11 per share based on Friday's closing price.
Select Financial Sector SPDRS (XLF) is up 0.62%. The Direxion
Financial Bull 3X fund (FAS) is up 1.69%; its bearish counterpart, FAZ,
is down 1.57%. Major banking shares, mortgage firms and insurance
shares are all seeing modest upside so far this morning.
