Bonovo Orthopedics has struck a deal to distribute surgical procedure
products for elliquence, LLC of New York State. Headquartered in the
US, all of Bonovo's operations are in China. Bonovo manufactures
orthopedic and neurosurgical products in its China facilities, and it
also distributes other companies' medical devices through its China
distribution network. Financial terms of the agreement were not
announced.
elliquence's products are built around a patented
Radiowave energy source, which uses high frequency, low temperature
radiowaves to perform traditional scalpel, scissor, electrosurgical and
laser-assisted procedures. According to elliquence, its tools have a
cell-specific tissue effect, offering improved surgical precision while
causing only minimal damage to healthy tissue. The low temperature
emission results in non-adherent bipolar performance which minimizes
tissue trauma and eliminates frequent cleaning and instrument
irrigation.
Besides its minimally invasive surgical tool,
elliquence also offers a product specifically aimed at minimally
invasive discectomy procedures for contained lumbar spine herniations.
For
its part, Bonovo was formed by merging two China companies: Beijing
Orthopedic Innovations Inc. and Orthopedic International Trading
(Shanghai) Inc. The company operates two factories in China, one in
Shanghai, the other in Tianjin, which manufacture orthopedic products
such as knee, hip and spine replacements that Bonovo sells in Asia. The
company's goal is to make itself recognized in China as the highest
quality provider of joint replacements.
Bonovo has 180 employees
and over 30 products in its portfolio. Last year, it became the
exclusive China distributor for Pioneer Surgical Technology Inc.'s
spine products.
