NYSE Euronext (NYSE:NYX) today reported net income of $174Mn for the quarter ended September 30, 2008, or $0.66 per diluted share (including $0.65 from continuing operations and $0.01 from the discontinued operations of GL Trade) as compared to net income of $258Mn, or $0.97 per diluted share, for the quarter ended September 30, 2007. On October 1, in connection with the completion of SunGard’s acquisition of a majority interest in GL Trade, NYSE Euronext received €161.6Mn ($227.5Mn) from the sale of its 40% ownership stake in GL TRADE to SunGard. In the third quarter, NYSE Euronext markets added 148 new listings, including exchange-traded products, compared with 124 in the same period last year.
Cummins (NYSE: CMI) today reported its highest third quarter sales and profits ever, and second best quarter in its history, led by strong gains internationally. Third quarter sales of $3.69Bn were 10% higher than $3.37Bn during the same period in 2007. Net income rose 24% to $229Mn, or $1.17 a share, compared to $184Mn, or $0.92 a share a year ago. Power Generation and Distribution had the largest percentage sales gains compared to last year, having sales of $888Mn increased 14% from $776Mn a year ago. Non-U.S. sales accounted for 61% of the Company’s revenues in the third quarter, compared to 52% a year ago. Cummins expects revenue to grow in 2008 by 12% from last year, down from earlier guidance of 15%.
