Market Loses Track As Oil Prices Tumble, Oracle And Accenture Register Profits

Symbols: ACN, AZN, BMY, CVC, GOOG, MSFT, MU, ORCL
(NYSE: VNV) filed a lawsuit against Cablevision Systems Corp. (NYSE: CVC) for unlawfully streaming live television on mobile devices. Shares of Viacom added 0.20 percent or 5 cents to end at $25.59, while shares of Cablevision were down 1.78 percent or 63 cents to close at $34.73.

Currency & Commodities:

In the world currency market, the US dollar lost 0.50 percent against the euro and 0.34 percent against the British pound. The dollar lost 0.28 percent against the Japanese yen.

Commodities ended the day on a losing note as oil prices slipped 3.74 percent to close at $91.84 per barrel. Natural gas shed 2.7 percent to settle at $4.20 per million metric British thermal unit. Gold prices were down 2.40 percent to end at $1,515.40 per ounce and silver fell 4.5 percent to finish at $35.06 per ounce. Among major indexes, Reuters-Jeffries CRB was down 2.28 percent and the DJ-UBS Commodity lost 2.262 percent.

Global Markets:

Greece crisis and a fear of slowdown in global economic growth weighed heavily on the European markets today. The Stoxx Europe 600 index fell 1 percent to end at 265.42. Among major national indexes, Great Britain's FTSE 100 slipped 1.71 percent to close at 5,674.38 and Germany's DAX lost 1.77 percent to end at 7,149.44. France's CAC 40 was down 2.16 percent to finish trading at 3,787.79.

The Asian market closed the day's trading on a much better note. China's Shanghai Composite added 1.44 percent to close at 2,687.59 and India's BSE 30 Sensex gained 1.01 percent to settle at 17,727.50. Japan's Nikkei 225 was down 0.34 percent to end at 9,596.74.

Sector Watch:

A day after becoming the worst performer of the day, the technology sector added 1.03 percent to emerge as the market's best performing sector. Among major movers in the sector, PowerShares Dynamic Semiconductors (NYSEArca: PSI) gained 1.73 percent or 28 cents to end at $16.44. ProShares Ultra Technology (NYSEArca: ROM) was up 2.20 percent or $1.31 to finish at $60.73. Among major stocks, shares of Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) added 1.47 percent or 31 cents to close at $21.71. Shares of Micron Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: MU) were up 3.18 percent or 26 cents to end at $8.43. Shares of Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) slipped 0.08 percent or 2 cents to close at $24.63.

The major gainer of the day was Aoxing Pharmaceutical Co. Inc. (AMEX: AXN), which jumped 30 percent or 33 cents to end at $1.43 per share. The major loser of the day was Globus Maritime Ltd. (Nasdaq: GBS), which slumped 17.25 percent or $1.76 to end at $8.44 per share.
