Students of Junior Achievement's BizTown to Host Twin Cities News Event to Kickoff National 'Community Service 2008' Program

Student Mayor and Student Reporters Are Among 100 Children to Welcome U.S. Bancorp CEO and Other Notable Guests at July 1 News Conference

WHAT:   A news conference to be held at Junior Achievement's BizTown--a miniature business community run entirely by 100 fourth- through eighth-graders--to kickoff The Financial Services Roundtable's Community Service 2008 (CS08), the seventh annual celebration of the volunteer work the financial services industry does 365 days a year to improve the communities in which they work. CS08 will focus on improving financial literacy by increasing the availability of financial education programs in communities across the country.

1:30 p.m. - 2 p.m. CDT, Tuesday, July 1, 2008
 

WHERE:

Junior Achievement's BizTown, 1800 White Bear Avenue North, Maplewood, MN

WHO:

Richard Davis, chairman, president and chief executive officer of U.S. Bancorp and co-chairman of CS08
 
Steve Bartlett, president and chief executive officer of The Financial Services Roundtable
 
Gina Blayney, president of Junior Achievement of the Upper Midwest
 
Nearly 100 fourth through eighth graders who will attend the news conference in their roles as bankers, store owners, newspaper reporters, the mayor and other members of the business community
 

VISUALS:

The student mayor will open the news conference and reporters from BizTown's radio and newspaper will get to ask the first questions.
 
BizTown features a scaled down business community in which the children conduct business transactions, including a bank, City Hall, a cafe, a wellness center, a grocery store, a newspaper and a radio station. (The students and business volunteers will be working at BizTown before and after the news conference.)
 
U.S. Bancorp CEO, Richard Davis, and the other guests will deliver the entirety of their remarks to the student population of BizTown. (But grown-up media will be allowed to ask questions, too.)
