In the July 10 Rocky Mountain News, letter writer Bob Heisser refers to concerned citizens about the environment as "wackos" ("Dems selling out to environmental wackos").He sure is behind the times. Environmentalists have been called names for the past 20 years or so. They are now correct and the ones calling the names are wrong. The scientific community is in agreement that we are now facing serious climate change in the world.When are we going to invest in alternative, nonpolluting, energy? The fossil fuels we have depended upon are finite. Do we wait until they are gone and the atmosphere can no longer sustain life? We need leadership that reviews where taxpayer money is going so that the oil and coal companies do not continue to receive subsidies (despite huge profits) that would be far better spent on innovative companies working on clean, environmentally sound approaches to our energy needs.
