Aug. 6--CHAMBER, HEALTHPLEX PARTNER: The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce now has a deal with Mercy HealthPlex to provide Fairfield Chamber members the opportunity to receive a discounted rate to join the Mercy HealthPlex.

The arrangement allows any person who is currently an individual member of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce or is employed by a company or organization that is currently a member of the Fairfield Chamber to receive this discount. The rate is $39 per month. The couple rate is $69/month and the family rate is $79/month.

The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce discount provides membership to all three locations of the Mercy HealthPlex. This includes the HealthPlex in Fairfield along with the HealthPlexes in Anderson and Western Hills.

STEELMAKER DENIES INTEREST: German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp denied it might be interested in buying AK Steel Corp.

"ThyssenKrupp has no interest in AK Steel," a company spokesman said.

The spokesman was responding to reports that AK Steel may be looking to sell itself and has had talks with several parties. The spokesman for AK Steel has not commented on the sales speculation.

AK's stock fell 6.4 percent Monday, Aug. 4, after an analyst from Longbow Research downgraded the stock from "neutral" to "buy" as the shares reached a target price of $60 per share.

Shares dropped $3.84 to $56.22. The stock had jumped 32 percent last month due to increased steel prices and strong demand.

WORKER NAMED TO DEVELOPMENT BOARD: Chris Xeil Lyons, economic development specialist for the city of Hamilton, has been appointed to the Ohio Economic Development Association Board of Directors.

Lyons will begin her role as Area 5 Director effective immediately. Area 5 includes Butler, Warren, Clermont and Hamilton counties. She has been an active OEDA member since 2003, serving as alternate Area 5-Director and on the Annual Summit Committee.

OEDA represents more than 425 economic development professionals from across Ohio. It is nonpartisan and advocates on behalf of economic development issues important to growing the Ohio economy.
