Demand Soars as Donations Decline at L.A.-Area Food Banks

Movin 93.9’s Rick Dees in the Morning read an article in the LA Times about how demand at the LA Food Bank was up almost 20 percent from last year and that food pantry operators throughout the Los Angeles region report that demand for free groceries has surged to the highest level in recent memory as the sagging economy has hit not only the poor, but also middle-class families. Over 1 million people in Los Angeles County are at risk of going hungry.

Rick Dees and the entire staff of Movin 93.9 (KMVN Los Angeles) are asking listeners to join them from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. this Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at the Albertson’s in Montebello to make donations for the LA Regional Food Bank.

Date:

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

Location:

Albertson's

2469 Via Campo

Montebello CA 90640

Time:

7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Rick Dees will do his show live from the Albertson’s parking lot. Dees said, “I’m telling listeners that I’m throwing the party, but they need to bring the food! This is a great cause and every single can donated makes a difference. I can’t wait to see everyone next Wednesday to help this great cause!”

Through a network of nearly 900 charitable agency sites, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank provides food for over 675,000 people. If you are unable to attend Movin 93.9’s food drive for the LA Food Bank, you can make a donation directly on www.lafoodBank.org.
