Major Chinese Telecommunications Provider Deploying Conexant Technology in Worldwide Broadband Access Networks

Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CNXT) today announced that its ADSL2plus central office (CO) solutions are now shipping in volume quantities to ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions based in China. Conexant’s CX95516 and CX95524 devices are being used to power ZTE’s new ZXDSL 9806H CO digital subscriber line access multiplexers (DSLAMS), which are now being deployed in worldwide broadband access networks. Conexant’s 16- and 24-port CO solutions enable operators to improve the delivery of advanced voice, video, and data services such as Internet protocol-based television (IPTV), video-on-demand (VoD), and high-definition television (HDTV) programming.

“We’re pleased that ZTE selected our highly integrated central office solutions for their next-generation central office product,” said Craig Garen, senior vice president and general manager of Conexant’s Broadband Access business. “We remain committed to delivering technical innovations that improve the performance of advanced broadband access networks, and provide our customers with a competitive edge.”

“Conexant’s technology enabled us to develop a high-performance DSLAM with improved impulse noise protection, which is essential to the delivery of high-quality IPTV-over-DSL services,” said Mr. Xu Ming, general manager of ZTE’s Fixed Network division. “Conexant’s CO solutions also allowed us to develop the industry’s lowest power DSLAM, and meet our customers increasing demand for more power-efficient and environmentally conscious solutions.”

ZTE’s compact ZXDSL 9806H supports up to 96 ADSL2/ADSL2plus lines and is targeted at multi-tenant unit/multi-dwelling broadband access applications. The next-generation DSLAM exceeds the European code of conduct energy consumption parameters for broadband equipment, enabling significant power-consumption savings per port and a dramatically reduced carbon footprint. The ZXDSL 9806H was chosen as the winner in the “Best Green Innovation” category at the Convergence World Awards 2008 competition, which was held this April in London, England.

Conexant’s comprehensive broadband access portfolio includes CO and CPE solutions, software, and reference designs for asymmetric and symmetric DSL applications including ADSL2plus, SHDSL, and VDSL2.
