Aug. 28--Women's fashions and beauty products will be on display when the outdoor shopping complex at Vintage Faire Mall opens in November.
Called The Village at Vintage Faire, the 60,000-square-foot project's newest tenants are Bebe fashion boutique and Sephora beauty supplies, mall management announced Wednesday.
Sephora will be just outside the mall entrance, near Sweet River Grill & Bar. It features more than 250 brands, including makeup, body and bath items, fragrances and hair care products. Sephora will be staffed by consultants trained in skin types and makeup application.
Across the main pedestrian walkway from Sephora, Bebe will occupy a space that wraps around a corner of one of the new buildings. It offers a line of women's apparel and accessories. The new store was designed to create an upscale boutique.
When all the spaces are leased, The Village will have 10 stores and two restaurants.
Coach, a high-end handbag, footwear and accessories store, and Coldwater Creek, a women's apparel, gifts, jewelry and fashion accents retailer, have announced plans for outlets in The Village. BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse opened there earlier this month.
Space set aside for another restaurant directly across from BJ's remains unoccupied and will be covered with grass until a tenant is found, according to mall officials. Rumors had California Pizza Kitchen, Cheesecake Factory or Macaroni Grill going there, but mall officials say the proj- ect's second-restaurant site is still available.
Apple Computer reportedly is planning to open a retail store at The Village. Although mall officials couldn't comment on that, Apple is listing job openings for a Modesto store on the Internet.
Maria Halstead, the mall manager, said the new tenants will be a good complement to existing Vintage Faire businesses. She said the outdoor lifestyle addition's upscale outlets should help attract shoppers who have been traveling out of the area to find such stores.
"Our shoppers told us they wanted new retail, dining and fashion options," Halstead said. "At the same time, our retailers shared with us that this is an important market for their brands. So, we're very pleased that the expansion ... not only responds to our shoppers, but to the needs of our retailers."
Halstead and Janice Curtin, mall marketing manager, pointed to the long-term commitment of Macerich, the mall's owner, to enhancing Vintage Faire as a key factor in making The Village attractive to retailers. Macerich has an interest in 72 regional malls around the country.
Halstead and Curtin said the complex is scheduled to open Nov. 13. A Nov. 13-16 Christmas celebration kicks off the mall's annual holiday shopping season, highlighted each year with the arrival of Santa.
Even St. Nick gets new digs in the mall this year, with a setting that pays tribute to the high-tech tracking system that NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) uses to monitor his Christmas Eve trip.
Other changes in the mall include two new stores: Crazy 8 and Swarovski Crystal. Both are on the mall's first floor.
Swarovski specializes in all things crystal, from designer jewelry and accessories to figurines and collectibles by Daniel Swarovski.
Crazy 8 is a Gymboree Corp. children's apparel store, with sizes from zero to 14.
Inside and out, there are lots of changes taking place at the mall these days.
