A pipeline that carries natural gas from the Power River Basin in Wyoming to North Dakota will be reach capacity in a year because of demand.
The Williston Basin Grasslands Pipeline is a 250-mile natural gas pipeline from Gillette, Wyo., to Dunn County. It was built in 2003 and is operated by the Williston Basin Interstate Pipeline Co., a subsidiary of MDU Resources Group Inc., of Bismarck.
The company says the 16-inch line initially carried 80 million cubic feet of coal bed methane from the Power River Basin to a compressor station near Manning.
The line currently pipes 138 million cubic feet of natural gas a day. The expansion project is planned in August 2009 to bump the capacity to 213 million cubic feet daily.
The company says the project is pegged at $28 million and involves installing additional compressor stations along the pipeline.
