Voluntary Effort to Lower Greenhouse Gases From Shipping Operations Adds to More Than a Decade of Sustainable Investment in Environmental Programs
SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/08/08 -- Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation has
extended its broad environmental initiative by joining the SmartWay(SM)
Transport Partnership http://www.epa.gov/smartway/transport/index.htm, a
voluntary collaboration between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) and organizations committed to significantly reducing greenhouse
gases and air pollution in their freight operations. As part of the
SmartWay Transport Partnership, Fujitsu will work to improve the
environmental performance of its freight operations in order to contribute
to the partnership's goal to reduce 33 to 66 million metric tons of carbon
dioxide and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012.
As a SmartWay Transport partner, Fujitsu will:
-- Extend and promote SmartWay initiatives to other Fujitsu groups
-- Recruit non-SmartWay Transport partners into the partnership and
continue to use partner carriers
-- Incorporate partnership status into the contract bidding process,
giving preference to SmartWay Transport partners
-- Incorporate environmental clauses into shipping contracts
-- Develop employee awareness programs focused on SmartWay Transport
