.tv Webmercial Contest Runs Today Through November 15; Grand Prize Winner to Receive Sony HDR-TG1 Digital Camcorder
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/15/08 -- A new contest is calling for Internet
video enthusiasts to show their stuff in a bid to spotlight an emerging
corner of the Web that allows people to create their own TV channel on the
Web.
Today through Nov. 15, the .tv Webmercial Contest is accepting submissions
to www.tv. Ten prizes -- a Sony HDR-TG1 digital camcorder grand prize and
Flip Mino digital camcorders for nine other winners -- are up for grabs.
The contest is sponsored by VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSN), the trusted
provider of Internet infrastructure services for the networked world.
VeriSign administers the rapidly growing .tv domain, which already is
populated with media-rich destinations including fuse.tv,
tnt.tv, we.tv, blip.tv, hollywood.tv and mlb.tv.
"If your Web site moves, it belongs on .tv," said Jill McNabb, director of
Naming Services at VeriSign. "The Webmercial Contest gives aspiring video
producers a shot at showing off their talents and ideas in a way that
highlights the enormous potential of .tv. With four out of five U.S.
Internet users regularly watching video online, it's clear the Web will
never be the same. In fact, just as the Web we've used for years was built
on .com and .net domains, the future of the Internet is now playing on
.tv."
Contest details
Contestants are free to use their imaginations to convey what a .tv world
looks like. They can submit parodies, cartoons, musicals, testimonials,
even plays. So long as they meet a couple contest guidelines -- videos
mustn't exceed 100MB or two minutes in length and they must incorporate the
.tv logo -- the possibilities are as limitless as the Web itself.*
*Winners will be notified by Dec. 1. The Contest is only open to legal
residents of the United States (excluding Puerto Rico). Employees of
VeriSign. its parent company, its subsidiaries, and its advertising,
judging and promotional agencies (including Trahan Burden and Charles and
their affiliated companies) and each of their respective officers,
directors, employees, and agents, suppliers, and members of their immediate
families and people living in the same household of each are not eligible
to participate in the Contest. See www.tv for the complete rules and
eligibility requirements.
