Cummins Filtration (NYSE:CMI), the leader in filtration, exhaust, coolant and fuel additive technology for all engine-powered systems, provides state-of-the-art technology with Fleetguard® Self-Cleaning Precleaners that extend air filter life, improve engine performance and lower maintenance expenses. Available in single and dual stage options, the precleaners work during the first stage of an air intake system to prevent heavier-than-air particles from entering the system, ensuring maximum engine performance. The precleaners fit a broad spectrum of off-road applications, including construction, mining, forestry, landfills, farming, military and more.

“Fleetguard air precleaners utilize patented technology that allows the removal of all kinds of mixed debris, including mud, snow, rain, leaves, sawdust, chaff, and dust that can enter the system, shorten filter life, and cause harm to the engine,” said Erika Motlow, Director of Aftermarket Product Management for Cummins Filtration. “They offer outstanding performance under all operating conditions, while reducing parts, labor and engine down-time with hassle-free maintenance.”

The engineered polymer construction offers the strength of steel without corrosion or weight. The opaque black material prevents operator distraction as there are no visible moving parts. The rugged polymer combined with the patented sealed bearing chamber allow it to withstand the harshest environments, including extreme cold, and is the only precleaner on the market that is effective against snow.

Eight models of single-stage precleaners from 2” to 8” (51 mm to 204 mm) cover an air flow range of 10-1,800 CFM (0.28-51 m3/m) with single unit installation, and even higher air flow capacity with multiple unit installations. The single stage unit is self-cleaning and requires zero routine maintenance. The dual stage precleaner comes in two sizes, 6” and 8” (152 mm and 204 mm), and offers an air flow range of 400-1,800 CFM (11.33-51 m3/m) with single unit installation. The dual stage option requires an engine exhaust scavenging connection and comes with removable cover for easy access to inspect and clean when necessary.

The air precleaner starts to work when air enters the underside of the cleaner’s dome through screened louvers. This process prevents clogging by blocking particles larger than the ejection slot from entering the unit. Curved particle-accelerator blades direct air and dirt up against the sidewall.
