STRIKE action by electrical engineers has been avoided after a pay deal was agreed.
Staff at Newcastle-based NEDL were threatening to walk out for 10 days.
But following talks with parent company CE Electric, a new deal has been agreed.
The firm's offer, which included a three-year inflation-linked deal, was enough to get the thumbs-up from 74% of its 1,100 staff represented by the Unite and GMB trade unions.
John Barnett, director of customer operations, for CE Electric UK, said: "The offer is competitive for the utilities sector in our area without putting undue pressure on energy prices. We are now looking forward to refocusing on what we are best at - delivering a safe and reliable electricity supply."
