Ralphs Member Sherry Kovas of the Coachella Valley to be Featured on Specially-Marked Kellogg's Products
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Ralphs Grocery Company, in partnership
with key suppliers, has committed $240,000 in donations for Southern
California breast cancer initiatives to support National Breast Cancer
Awareness month in October.
A two-week sales promotion currently running in all Ralphs stores supports
the company's Giving Hope a Hand(R) campaign to increase breast cancer
awareness. The promotion includes hundreds of popular items storewide, many of
which will feature exclusive, specially marked pink packaging.
In addition, Sherry Kovas, a cashier at Ralphs Indian Wells store and a
four-year breast cancer survivor, will share her experience on
specially-marked products, including Kellogg's Special K protein bars.
'When I was diagnosed with breast cancer there were so many things I
wanted to know. What am I going to feel like? What will the treatment feel
like? And nobody wanted to talk. I had to go through chemo and radiation. I
tell anybody and everybody if you want to know what it's like or how it will
feel I can tell you,' says Kovas, a Coachella Valley resident. 'I want to do
anything I can to help the women out there, to ease their minds and let them
know they can do this, they'll be okay. I want to tell them, 'It's not a death
sentence; you'll be okay. Yeah, you're going to feel a little sick but I can
tell you what I did to get through it'.'
Customers can also find Sherry Kovas' story and other inspirational
stories by visiting http://www.sharingcourage.com, a new Web site dedicated to
raising breast cancer awareness.
Products featured in the Giving Hope a Hand(R) promotion include Ralphs
own corporate-brand items -- including its exclusive Private Selection(R) line
-- as well as products from other supplier and vendor partners. Participating
manufacturers include Kellogg's, Kraft, Pepsi, Campbell's, General Mills
products under the Betty Crocker and Pillsbury labels, Procter & Gamble and
Dreyer's Ice Cream. Ralphs partnership with key suppliers benefits breast
cancer initiatives in communities across Southern California where Ralphs
customers and team members live and work.
'We're proud to have our own Sherry Kovas featured on products to share
her personal journey as a breast cancer survivor,' said Mike Donnelly,
President of Ralphs Supermarkets. 'Sherry's participation is so meaningful in
so many ways but perhaps the most important aspect is the awareness she is
raising by encouraging others to take charge of their own health. She is
providing a tremendous service to families by sharing her story to educate
others in a positive and effective way.'
