Silicone Adhesive with Controlled Volatility Has Been Field Proven by Leading Automotive Electronics Supplier
MIDLAND, Mich., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Dow Corning Corporation's
Automotive Electronics group today globally launched DOW CORNING(R) SE 1720 CV,
a new controlled-volatility adhesive that offers faster curing at lower
temperatures than previous formulations. SE 1720 CV is suitable for a variety
of automotive uses, including case sealing and attaching electronic components
for underhood controllers, chassis & brake applications like steering
controllers, and the growing segment of high-power electronics for example
used in hybrid electric vehicles.
This silicone adhesive -- which already has been field-proven by a leading
automotive electronics supplier -- offers a very fast cure in comparison to
many heat-cured adhesives now on the market. SE 1720 CV starts adhesion to
polybuthylene terephthalate (PBT) substrates in as little as five minutes with
full adhesion in 30 minutes at 80 degrees C.
For manufacturers, faster curing contributes to shorter cycle times,
smaller assembly-line footprints and lower capital investments, thus lowering
the cost of production. Further cost savings and environmental benefits result
from being able to reduce oven temperatures, thus lowering energy consumption.
Lower-temperature curing also allows the use of lower-cost substrates that
would be damaged by higher-temperature processes.
SE 1720 CV offers the added benefit of controlled volatility, which
improves its suitability for use in close proximity to sensitive electronic
and electrical devices such as relays, electrical motors and potentiometers.
'This new material demonstrates Dow Corning's continued commitment to
developing innovative new technology with and for our key automotive
partners,' said Rogier Reinders, Dow Corning's automotive electronics market
leader. 'We look forward to meeting more of our customers' needs with this
latest expansion of our adhesives product portfolio.'
