MOSCOW. Oct 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia has begun implementing its agreements with Abkhazia and South Ossetia that allow it to deploy military bases in these republics, Russian Armed Forces General Staff deputy chief Col. Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn told Interfax-AVN.
"It is a routine issue. It is solved as part of bilateral relations. What [deployment] timeframes will we have? Time will tell," he said.
"Given the fact that winter will come soon, all issues of troops deployment require detailed consideration. It is necessary to plan this process thoroughly. What I want to say is that this is the kind of situation where there is no room for any hasty decisions," Nogovitsyn said.
Following agreements with the authorities of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the Russian government plans to set up military bases manned by 3,800 Russian servicemen each on the territory of the republics.
