Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association (TANSTIA) will write a letter to the state on Tuesday asking it to deduct VAT from the diesel price rather than reimbursing it later.

TANSTIA president D Gandhikumar said the government had asked the industries to procure diesel from a private company for Rs 50 per litre. VAT on the fuel would later be reimbursed to the industries through the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board.

"As we are not sure when we will get the money back, it would be better if the amount is deducted at the time of purchase itself," he said. The association has also requested for implementation of energy cuts rather than power cuts. "If an industry consumes too many units of power, TNEB can penalise us for it," he added.
