Birmingham Max & Erma's to be Refitted with New Look

BIRMINGHAM, Mich., May 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Max & Erma's(Nasdaq: MAXE) restaurant in Birmingham, 250 E. Merrill St., will close for amakeover at 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 1.


When the restaurant reopens at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 13, it will sport atotally new look.


'We're going to enhance both the interior and the exterior of therestaurant,' said Rob Lindeman, president of Max & Erma's. 'We believe ourguests will appreciate the new look, which will stress lighter colors and amore open, spacious interior.'


The Birmingham restaurant is the third Detroit-area Max & Erma's to berefitted with the new look. The Novi and Rochester Hills locations wererefitted last year.


Max & Erma's plans to refit all existing restaurants with the new lookwithin the next two years.


The interior decor will still feature walls adorned with the eclecticitems that Max & Erma's made famous, but the new design will focus on largeritems and less clutter.


'We're going to escape from the sea of sameness and differentiate Max &Erma's in the casual dining market,' Lindeman said. 'Many of our competitorshave copied our decor and image. We are establishing a new look that reflectsour heritage, while separating ourselves from the competition. It will stillbe the Max & Erma's everyone loves -- great food and service.'


    The new design will feature:
-- Slate floors will be installed, replacing the wood; -- Colorful, hand-blown glass fixtures will replace metal fixtures; -- New table tops; -- Renovations to the restrooms; -- A new floor plan.

The new exterior color will be cream with black accents, replacing the oldyellow, green and red. The exterior also will have cultured stone, brick andawnings.
