(NASDAQ: SIAL) announced recently it has named Patrick Sullivan vice president of research and development for Sigma's Research Biotech business unit. A former Monsanto and Pfizer employee, Sullivan has been a member of Sigma's scientific advisory board since 2005. His appointment is effective Oct. 1 and he will report to David Smoller, president of Research Biotech. Sullivan received his bachelor's of science degree in microbiology from Western Illinois University and his master's in molecular biology from Southern Illinois University.
Quaker Chemical Corp. (NYSE: KWR) said recently its SB Decking Inc. unit reached a deal with Employers Insurance Co. of Wausau related to a coverage dispute for some asbestos claims. The companies entered a claim handling and funding agreement in which Wausau will pay 27 percent of defense and indemnity costs incurred by or on behalf of SB Decking in connection with the asbestos bodily injury claims for at least five years, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Either company can end the agreement after three years, provided they give at least two years' written notice. The deal remains in effect until such notice is given.
Pacific Ethanol, Inc. (NASDAQ: PEIX), the largest West Coast-based marketer and producer of ethanol, recently announced details of the opening ceremony for its plant in Boardman, Oregon. Neil Koehler, CEO and President of Pacific Ethanol, observed, "We've had a very successful start up and now are running at levels above design capacity.
