Remote Console Manager Brings IT Administrators Closer to Their Critical IT Assets
APC, a global leader in integratedcritical power and cooling services, today announced its introduction ofthe Remote Console Manager (RCM), an enterprise-class out-of-bandmanagement solution that reduces IT support costs. It includes a richerfeature set than more traditional serial console servers, including ITmaintenance task automation, proactive monitoring, reporting and alertingof preset network parameters, security compliance for Sarbanes Oxley (SOX),FERC, BASEL II, GLBA and PCI DSS, a variety of secure out-of-band accessmethods, remote power management and fast file transfers for large fileslike operating systems and image files.
APC's RCM significantly reduces IT support costs through automation ofcommon IT maintenance tasks like OS upgrades, password updates and deviceconfiguration changes. If a configuration error is made, the RCM canautomatically rollback to the last known good configuration for attacheddevices. APC's RCM proactively monitors, reports, and alerts on up to 40preset parameters as often as every 30 seconds, increasing uptime andproductivity. When security and regulatory compliance are critical, theRCM's integrated security features minimize threats and unauthorized accessthrough event logs that can capture down to individual keystroke. The RCMcan analyze the logs and automatically recover, ensuring that securitypolicies are always enforced and audited, even during an outage.
"Today's IT managers dealing with distributed environments are looking toincrease efficiencies for routine maintenance tasks while increasinguptime," said John DiPippo, senior vice president, Data Center Solutions,Services, and Software, APC. "Ensuring security policies are enforced andgovernment regulations are complied with is critical regardless of thestate of the network."
Out-of-band access methods include dial-up, cellular and satellite. Remotepower management is possible through integration with APC Switched RackPower Distribution Units (PDU). The RCM appliance has two option cardslots. The option cards offer either 16 serial ports or a combination of 8serial and 8 Ethernet ports.
