MINOT, N.D., June 18, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Investors Real Estate Trust (Nasdaq:IRETS) (Nasdaq:IRETP) announced today that the ticker symbol for its common shares of beneficial interest listed on the NASDAQ Global Select Market will be changed from "IRETS" to "IRET", effective upon market open on Tuesday, July 1, 2008. Investors Real Estate Trust has been listed on NASDAQ since 1997. The Cusip number for the Company's common shares (461730103) is unaffected, and the symbol for the Company's preferred shares, IRETP, will remain unchanged.
According to Michelle Saari, Vice President and Director of Investor Relations, the change was initiated by the Company to streamline its ticker symbol by dropping the one-character "S" modifier that signified shares of beneficial interest, and retaining a four-letter symbol that is more common for NASDAQ-listed companies, and is also the acronym of the Company's name.
