Innovative Charging Technology Makes APC's New Back-UPS(R) ES Units More Efficient

APC, a global leader in integrated critical power and cooling services, today announced the introduction of its newly redesigned APC Back-UPSĀ® ES product line. The new Back-UPS ES 350, 450, 550, 650 and 750 feature an innovative high efficiency design that makes them up to five times more efficient than competitive products. In addition to saving electricity, these uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) provide connected equipment with APC's award-winning battery backup and surge protection.

"APC is committed to looking at new ways to increase energy efficiency across all market segments. With this in mind, APC carefully redesigned the Back-UPS ES line of uninterruptible power supplies to meet high standards of efficiency in terms of form and function," said Dave Johnson, senior vice president, Home & Business Networks, APC. "Additionally, the Back-UPS ES 750 features the master and controlled outlets to help reduce the cost of 'dark loads' for consumers."

Joining the Back-UPS ES 750, the new 350, 450, 550 and 650 models boast a new industrial design that minimizes their physical size and improves their aesthetic appeal. The units are all compliant with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS), meaning they conform to the strictest environmental regulations, making them more environmentally-friendly at the end of their life. RoHS prohibits the use of six hazardous materials in the manufacturing of electronics, including lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBB, and PBDE. Additionally, the packaging for these new units is made from recycled material.

The APC Back-UPS ES 750 features SmartShedding(TM) Technology which allows the product's master outlet to sense when the computer has either been turned off or has gone into sleep mode, so it can shut off power to unused peripherals plugged into the controlled outlets -- saving consumers power and money. By cutting power to these "dark loads," the APC Back-UPS ES 750 can provide a combined savings of $40 per year on average as compared with competitors' models.

The APC Back-UPS ES 450, 550 and 650 models feature eight surge protected outlets, with four of the outlets also providing battery backup. The APC Back-UPS ES 750 offers ten surge protected outlets, with five of the outlets also providing battery backup. There is also a 350 model that features six surge protected outlets. The APC Back-UPS ES line ranges from 200 to 450 Watts, offering plenty of power to back up a variety of home computer system configurations depending on the load. Additionally, the APC Back-UPS ES 650 and 750 offer coax and telephone or Ethernet protection ensuring surges and spikes do not travel through data lines.
