The private online high school will serve students across the country
Kaplan Virtual Education today announced the launch of a new virtual
private high school—Kaplan High School—which
will serve students across the country. Kaplan High School (KHS) will
offer students in grades 9 through 12 a variety of courses supported by
flexible scheduling, individualized instruction and relevant, engaging
curriculum.
“With the addition of Kaplan High School to
our private school online offerings, we are able to appeal to a broader
range of students. KHS will serve students who are looking for a
flexible schedule, who are homebound or homeschooled, who have fallen
behind or want to get ahead,” said Charles
Thornburgh, the President of Kaplan Virtual Education, which operates
Kaplan High School. “KHS programs have the
same quality and rigor commonly associated with our parent company
Kaplan, Inc., which has been helping students achieve academic success
for 70 years.”
Students will be able to access their coursework and class discussions
from virtually anywhere at any time as long as there is an Internet
connection. The courses will be embedded with audio, video and other
engaging teaching tools. Certified teachers will use white boards—the
equivalent of a real-time online blackboard—to
demonstrate course work, and will be available to answer student
questions via telephone, instant message and email. The school’s
courses will be designed to cater to different skill levels, facilitate
learning and keep students motivated.
"We are pleased to extend our reach in the world of virtual education,”
said Robert Becerra, Executive Director for Private Schools at Kaplan
Virtual Education. “Families have an
increasing degree of choices when it comes to educational services for
their children and it is critical that those choices are of the highest
quality. We are confident that Kaplan High School will be a leader in
the field."
Kaplan High School students will have the opportunity to select from
more than 75 core, honors and Advanced Placement courses. Kaplan High
School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
(SACS) and the Commission on International and Trans-Regional
Accreditation (CITA). The school offers rolling admissions so students
may continue to enroll throughout the fall. To learn more about Kaplan
