Oct 20 (Interfax) - The Russian industrial safety watchdog Rostekhnadzor will inspect the Mayak chemical plant on October 20 to 25 under a plan of comprehensive checks on Russia's industrial enterprises, Rostekhnadzor said in a press release.

Mayak, located in Chelyabinsk Region, is a facility for storing and recycling spent nuclear fuel. It bred serious environmental problems back in the Soviet era when it was implementing a nuclear weapons project.

Rostekhnadzor experts will also check on the observance of standards and rules of transporting spent nuclear fuel from the Kola nuclear power plant, and inspect the shelter for nuclear materials at the Smolensk nuclear power plant.

The plan of check includes Branch 12 of the Moscow Integrated Energy Company.
