Nov. 7--DAYTON -- John J. Gillen, the top financial officer for DPL Inc. and its main subsidiary Dayton Power and Light Co., is leaving on Nov. 30 to take a job with a privately owned company, DPL announced on Friday, Nov. 7.

He will be succeeded by Frederick J. Boyle, 51, on Dec. 1 in all the positions Gillen now holds as senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer.

Boyle joined DPL in 2006. He has served most recently as its vice president for finance, chief accounting officer and controller. He has a financial background in the energy industry, including prior service as an American Electric Power executive.

DPL didn't identify Gillen's next employer, other than to say it is in the professional services industry. Paul M. Barbas, DPL's president and chief executive officer, said in a statement that Gillen has developed a "first-class financial organization" for the energy company.

Gillen, 55, is from Philadelphia and is moving back to that area to be closer to family, said Art Meyer, a DPL vice president.

Gillen joined DPL in December 2004 as senior vice president and chief financial officer, adding the title of treasurer in February of this year. He was previously a partner at the PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP auditing and accounting firm.

Gillen's base salary with DPL – before stock grants and other benefits -- was $354,400 in 2007, up 6.5 percent from $332,800 in 2006, according to the company's proxy statement filed in March with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
