2 Arrested for Stealing From Ambulance: Police: Men Will Face Grand Larceny Charges

Nov. 18--Morgantown Police charged two men with stealing a drug bag and a defibrillator from an ambulance parked in front of the Morgantown police station early Saturday morning.

Michael P. Ducote, 23, of Grant Avenue, Morgantown, and Zachary J. Bevard, 21, of Grafton, are charged with felony grand larceny. Morgantown Officer T. Holder said while patrolling Spruce Street at 3:25 a.m., he and PFC M.P. Beavers saw two men enter the passenger door of Mon EMS Unit 61, which was parked in front of the station.

The men removed a Lifepack defibrillator valued at $15,000 and a drug bag worth $5,000, according to the criminal complaint filed by Holder. The officer said they caught the men after a pursuit up Spruce Street.

Bond was set at $25,000 apiece for the men. Neither was listed as a prisoner at the North Central Regional Jail on Monday.

In other police news from the weekend:

Morgantown Police said a burglar took time to eat and drink a beer before leaving a Lyndhurst Street home Nov. 6. William Edward Steinborn II, 46, of Morgantown, is charged with felony burglary. Detective M.J. Charlton said Steinborn confessed that he went into the residence through a back window, ate food and drank beer, then left through the back door with a black powder pistol he took from the residence.

Bond was set at $10,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 5.

Police charged Casey Kellen Knox, 20, of Uniontown, Pa., with night-time burglary Sunday after he and other men allegedly broke into a home and beat four men. Knox was lodged in the North Central Regional Jail on Monday in lieu of $50,000 bond. The charge is a felony.

Morgantown Officer J.J. Nabors said when he went to Lorentz Avenue at 4:45 a.m., Morgantown Officer Bloniarz had apprehended Knox after seeing him run from an apartment. Knox's clothes were covered in mud and his hands were bloody, Nabors wrote in the criminal complaint in Monongalia County Magistrate Court.

Officer Nabors said four men told police that Knox and about five others had kicked in their door and kicked and punched them, knocking them down. The men said the attack continued after they were on the ground. Nabors said he saw facial injuries on all four, and one appeared to have a broken nose. Two were taken to Ruby Memorial for treatment.

A Nov. 25 preliminary hearing is scheduled.

Police are continuing their investigation into the armed robbery of the Sabraton Exxon. Police said someone entered the Exxon around 10 p.m. Saturday, pulled out a knife and demanded money, then fled with a few hundred dollars cash.
