Nov. 19--A Silverdale Detention Center employee fired in June is facing a felony charge for allegedly having sexual contact with an inmate, officials said.
Angel Harris, 27, appeared Tuesday in Hamilton County Criminal Court on the charge, a Class E felony. Her case was continued to Dec. 17, according to court records.
According to the indictment, Ms. Harris is accused of engaging "in sexual contact or sexual penetration with Alex Freeman, who at the time was an inmate at the Corrections Corporation of America" on May 25.
Bond has been set at $2,500, according to the indictment.
Ms. Harris could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
Spokeswoman Christina Young gave a statement that did not identify Ms. Harris but said a correctional officer was fired in June for violating company policy and the company's code of conduct.
"Out of respect for the ongoing criminal and court proceedings, we are refraining from commenting in detail on the allegations and would instead refer such questions to the district attorney's office," the statement reads. "Facility management and staff have cooperated fully with law enforcement and the DA's office and support full prosecution under the law for any criminal violations."
