The discount retailer said profit rose 24 percent on strong sales of staples like produce and coffee, but discretionary sales fell.

Halliburton Co., down 83 cents at $16.83

The oilfield services company said it is well-positioned to ride out the economic downturn, but shares slid as crude prices continued to fall.

Jack in the Box Inc., down $1.41 at $13.80

Fiscal first quarter profit will drop from a year ago on higher commodity costs and shaky financial markets, the restaurant operator said.

Best Buy Co., down $2.10 at $18.87

Standard & Poor's Ratings Services lowered the corporate credit rating on the electronics retailer to "BBB-", one level above junk status.

AstraZeneca PLC, down $4.14 at $37.83

The company reported mixed study results from a developing lung cancer drug Zactima and faces new generic competition for an asthma drug.

Mentor Graphics Corp., down 14 cents at $5.95

The electronics testing software maker posted a wider third-quarter loss, saying customers are waiting longer to renew contracts.

Imax Corp., up 11 cents at $3.32

Entertainment company Walt Disney Co. plans to deliver five movies beginning in Nov. 2009 via Imax's large-screen and 3-D theater formats.

TD Ameritrade Holding Corp., down $1.24 at $10.31

Concerns about lower interest rates and transaction volume led some analysts to cut fiscal 2009 earnings estimates for retail brokerage firm.
