Looking to Stretch Your Dollars This Holiday Season? Look No Further Than A SCAA Public Auction
Wednesday, November 19, 2008 7:31 PM

Commonly associated with economic downturns and distressed real estate markets worldwide, the auction industry has remained a leading financial boon for buyers and sellers alike. Seeking to involve the public in the industry’s unprecedented growth is the Southern California Auctioneers Association (SCAA).

SCAA President Dave Spear explains, “Exceeding $270 billion in live auction revenue in 2007, the auction industry is one of the largest in the world. Particularly in today’s economic climate, the efficiency and transparency through which an impressive range of goods is sold provides an exciting platform by which to engage participants. The diversity of products showcased, as well as its appeal to many socioeconomic levels, will continue to draw bidders from around the world for years to come.”

SCAA Vice President Rob Storment adds, “Reemerging through our current housing crisis is the common misconception that auctions signal distress. On the contrary, live auctions are high energy and empowering. From real estate, luxury automobiles, jewelry, rare art, antiques, office furniture, amusement machines and much more, there’s always a great opportunity at a live or online auction, and the holidays are no exception.”

Mindful of tighter budgets for consumers this holiday season, the SCAA is encouraging local buyers to stretch their dollars at one of its many live auctions throughout Southern California. Although the SCAA specializes in the Southern California marketplace, public demand for live and online auctions has allowed this 50-member association to expand nationally and internationally.

“SCAA’s success on the regional level has helped gain notoriety on a much larger scale. The more people learn about public auctions and experience the thrill of attending one, the greater the demand. During this holiday season, we expect to see record numbers of buyers and sellers looking to reduce or acquire valuable inventory before year’s end,” says SCAA Trustee and Past President Ed Testo.

Offers SCAA Secretary and Past President Rich Wasser, “SCAA’s auctioneers have a wealth of experience and education, which translates into a comfortable environment for all parties. Present times are stressful, which is why the SCAA always strives to ensure a smooth bidding process for our auctioneers, buyers and sellers. There’s no intimidation factor and there are always plenty of associates on hand to answer questions. So, if looking for a one-of-a-kind gift for that special someone or needing to cushion your wallet this holiday season, look no further than a SCAA live auction.”

Marking its 87th anniversary, the Southern California Auctioneers Association (SCAA) was established in 1921 to promote the “Auction Method of Marketing” through professional and ethical auctioneering practice in Southern California. Membership is open to qualified auctioneers, whose principal place of business is in Southern California. To become a member of SCAA, contact Joe Tadlock at (562) 941-8602.
