MOSCOW. Nov 28 (Interfax) - Russia will provide humanitarian aid to Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Cuba and a number of African countries in 2009, said Yury Brazhnikov, the director of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry's international activity department.
"We began to work not only in the regime of reacting but also on the planned basis. We plan our humanitarian operations together with the UN, the World Food Program (WFP), and the International Civil Defense Organization. Food assistance will be provided to Tajikistan, where a sever food situation formed, some African countries, Afghanistan and Cuba at the expense of Russia's donation to the WFP," Brazhnikov told journalists on Friday.
This year, Russia actively participated in food deliveries to countries with serious food shortages, including Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Bangladesh and Tajikistan, he said.
