BISHKEK. Dec 17 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz Prime Minister Igor Chudinov has said that the country's electricity consumption limits will remain in place until February 2009.
However, "we will be able to restore sustainable consumption in the winter and spring periods," Chudinov told a joint session of three parliamentary factions on Wednesday.
Power consumption limits have been introduced in Kyrgyzstan since this year's spring due to a shortage of water in the Toktogul reservoir, which caused a decline in electricity generation at the Toktogul cascade of hydroelectric power plants.
Rolling blackouts were used in the republic in April-May and August-October, and they were replaced by target blackouts in November. Individual districts of the country can be left without electricity for up to 12 hours a day.
Kyrgyz Minister of Industry, Energy and Fuel Resources Ilyas Davydov said at the same session that there will be no target blackouts in the country on December 31 and January 1.
