Jan. 3--Unseasonably high temperatures today and Saturday will give way to colder weather after a cold front arrives Sunday.
National Weather Service meteorologist Nick Hampshire said today will be warmer than normal, with highs in the mid-70s and evening temperatures near 60 degrees. The high for this time of year is normally 54 degrees.
The warm weather will continue Saturday, with southwest winds of up to 20 mph developing in the afternoon. The weather service said winds and low humidity will create ideal conditions for grass fires and has issued a fire weather watch for Denton and Tarrant counties.
Temperatures will drop to the low 40s when a Canadian cold front blows through early Sunday morning. Highs in the lower 50s are expected Sunday along with a chance of rain that will continue into Monday.
Temperatures are expected to reach the lower 40s on Monday in Dallas-Fort Worth. Freezing rain may be possible north of the area.
Rain and snow are a possibility in Denton and McKinney on Tuesday, said weather service meteorologist Jesse Moore. The area should then start warming up again.
