Noted Surgeon Encourages People to Get Plastic Surgery for the Right Reasons
NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 01/06/09 -- While economic woes continue to cause people
to cut their spending in just about every area, many people are getting
plastic surgery to look their best in an effort to keep their jobs and be
successful in a tough business environment. According to Dr. Goesel
Anson, one of the country's most well known plastic surgeons, people
need to carefully evaluate their reasons for wanting plastic surgery,
particularly during difficult times such as these.
"There are some people who think getting plastic surgery will solve all
their problems," said Anson. "We'll see people come in who have lost their
jobs, are having marital problems or are just down on their luck for one
reason or another. They think if they do something dramatic to improve
their looks everything will fall into place for them, and that is simply
not true."
Anson stresses that a person should get plastic surgery to look the best
that they can, and so they will look as good on the outside as they feel
inside. "People sometimes think looking good on the outside will make them
feel good on the inside and that is usually a temporary solution," said
Anson. Looking younger is another common reason people get plastic
surgery. While having certain procedures can enhance a person's youthful
appearance, Anson points out that a person should strive to look good for
their age, and not try to be a different age than they are.
"Plastic surgery takes what you already have and enhances it," said Anson.
"If a person is 50 years old and wants to be a great-looking 50 year-old,
or wants to bring out their inner confidence by being more attractive, then
they are in it for the right reasons."
Anson offers these five considerations for anyone thinking about getting
plastic surgery:
-- Have a candid conversation with yourself about how plastic surgery
will enhance your life. Be honest and evaluate whether you are using the
plastic surgery as a quick fix, for example, for a troubled marriage. Fix
the problems in your life first, and don't use plastic surgery to resolve
problems with your personal or professional lives.
-- Make sure you are living a healthy lifestyle. While plastic surgery
can enhance your looks, it is not a substitute for eating right and a
regular exercise regimen.
-- Don't get plastic surgery because of comments made by a spouse, boss,
friends or family. You should get plastic surgery because YOU want it, not
because someone else thinks so.
-- Are you trying to be someone else, or do you want to be a better you?
If you want to feel and look the best you can, that's OK. But if you want
to become someone else, there are probably non-cosmetic reasons you feel
that way and plastic surgery is not for you.
-- While happiness can come from looking your best, that's not where it
starts. Be happy first, and get plastic surgery second.
