Smith and Brown to Lead Advocacy on Global Energy and Transportation
Issues
Alstom U.S. President and CEO Pierre L. Gauthier today announced the
appointment of two new company executives. Ruth Ravitz Smith will serve
as Vice President, Government Affairs and Timothy S. Brown will function
as Director, Communications. Both will be located in Alstom’s newly
opened Washington, D.C. office and will be responsible for Alstom’s
North American activities in their respective functions.
Gauthier said, “I’m delighted to welcome Ruth and Tim to Alstom. They
both bring extensive experience in their respective disciplines and join
a global team responsible for ensuring that Alstom’s voice is heard in
important policy debates on energy and transportation issues. By drawing
on Alstom’s experience in the debate on energy and climate change in
Europe, Asia and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate
Change - policy forums where Alstom’s expertise in delivering clean
power has made it an authoritative industry voice - they will help bring
a global perspective to the environmental policy discussions within the
new Administration and Congress.”
Smith is a senior-level, government relations executive with over
twenty-five years experience and a proven track record on both the
federal and state levels. Smith was a Principal at Brown Rudnick in

of Travelers and of Northeast Utilities, New England’s largest energy
company.
Brown has extensive experience in energy and environmental policy
related communications. He most recently served as Director of Strategic
Communications for Exelon Generation, one of the largest utilities in
the United States. Prior to that, he held senior level communications
and public affairs positions in the energy industry, including positions
with Pepco Holdings, the Electric Power Supply Association, and several
industry trade groups.
“Alstom has an important and timely story to tell in North America,”
said Gauthier, who noted that the company has 6,500 U.S. employees
working at 20-plus locations. “Thanks to our unrivalled systems for
emissions control and electricity production optimization and our
energy-saving, safe and high-performance transport solutions, we are a
front-runner in environmental protection and sustainable development.
These appointments will help us communicate such clean power and clean
transportation solutions more effectively.”
