Jan. 9--SNOW CAMP -- A former volunteer firefighter in Alamance County faces three more felony embezzlement charges.
The Alamance County Sheriff's Office said today that more than $51,000 in goods and services was embezzled from the Snow Camp Volunteer Fire Department from 2002 to Oct. 2008.
Andrew Francis Pates, the fire department's former treasurer, was charged with embezzlement in October when the department discovered that $8,495 in cash and more than $2,600 in office supplies were missing.
Since then, the fire department and Alamance County sheriff's investigators found more missing items: more than $15,000 in cash, $12,000 in goods from Office Depot, more than $8,000 in unauthorized payroll, more than $3,200 in fraudulent invoices and more than $1,000 in postage, according to a news release.
Pates, 66, of 7701 Snow Camp Road, was free on a $30,000 bond on the original charge. The new charges increased his bond by $5,000.
