Jan. 13--SONY SHARES TUMBLE: Sony shares fell sharply on Tuesday amid reports that the electronics giant is set to post its first annual operating loss in 14 years because of a drop in demand and a strong yen, reported AFP. Sony is expected to post an operating loss of 100 billion yen ($1.12bn) for the financial year to March 2009, the Nikkei business daily reported.

INFOSYS Q3 PROFIT UP 33 PERCENT: Infosys Technologies, India's No.2 software services exporter, reported a one-third rise in quarterly profit on Tuesday, but cut its annual forecast, Reuters has reported. The company forecast revenue for the year to March would grow 11.8-12.8 percent in dollar terms, down from October's forecast of 13.1-15.2 percent. Its earnings per share forecast was trimmed to $2.23, down marginally from $2.24 projected in October.

INTEL UNVEILS NEW NOTEBOOKS: Intel Corp has rolled out the generation of its netbook computers aimed at the education sector and emerging markets. The world's biggest chipmaker unveiled the third generation of its Classmate PC netbook, which is made by local computer makers in a number of countries and runs on Intel's low-power Atom chip. The newest model features a touch screen and convertible tablet form. The machine is designed to be rugged enough to withstand a pounding from schoolchildren.
