Jan. 19--SONY UNVEILS VAIO NOTEBOOK: Sony Gulf has unveiled the new VAIO P series Lifestyle PC, the world's lightest 8-inch notebook. The new VAIO P 'Pocket style PC' is a full-featured notebook PC and is small enough to grip with one hand. The VAIO P weighs 594g and is small enough to slip into a pocket or handbag.
LENOVO LAUNCHES DUAL SCREEN WORKSTATION: Lenovo has released the ThinkPad W700ds mobile workstation onto global markets. The ThinkPad W700ds give users the first mobile workstation in the industry with two screens. Measuring almost 40 percent of the 17-inch primary screen, the 10.6-inch second screen gives users extra screen size, measuring approximately the size of a Lenovo IdeaPad S10e netbook. The second screen easily slides out from the PC cover behind the primary screen, and it can also be adjusted to fit a user's viewing angle by up to 30 degrees.
BAHRAIN TO UPGRADE ICT IN GOVERNMENT: Bahrain is set to become the first country in the Gulf to upgrade and standardise the level of information communication technology in all government buildings. The Enterprise Architecture Project aims to streamline governmental procedures and improve access. Due to the scale and complexity, the project will be conducted in two stages.
PORTABLE SATELLITE TV SYSTEM LAUNCHED IN SAUDI: Humax has developed a portable satellite TV system that viewers can carry with them wherever they go. The system was launched in Saudi Arabia by Samir Photographic Supplies, the exclusive distributor for Humax products in the kingdom. The SATBox -- as the product is called -- has a 17-inch LCD monitor and an integrated Humax satellite receiver with a compact and portable flat antenna to receive channels and recharge-able laptop-style batteries, all packed together in a briefcase-like design.
UAE TOPS ARAB ICT INDEX: According to a survey conducted by Madar Research Group and Orient Planet, the UAE topped the 2007 Arab Information and Communications Technology Use Index. With a score of 2.19, the UAE became the only country in the Middle East to break through the index's 2.00 barrier.
LASER COLOR ID SYSTEM AT INTERSEC: Digital Identification Solutions AG will exhibit its EDIsecure LCP 9000 Laser Color Personalization System, the world's first desktop laser color personalization system, at Intersec 2009. This new technology offers high-quality XID Retransfer color printing and secure laser engraving on a single card in a one-step process, thus making credential forgery and manipulation highly impossible, according to the company's statement.
