Jan. 22--Avnet Inc., a distributor of electronic components, computer products and embedded technology, will close its Texas operations and move them to Nogales, Sonora.
The Fortune 500 company will transition its assembly operations from Grapevine, Texas, to the Mexican border town over the next 18 months, the company said in a news release.
The company said the move will place operations closer to its suppliers' factories in Arizona and Mexico, including Amphenol, Cannon and Molex.
Avnet will also move its direct ship products from the Grapevine facility to an electronic components distribution facility in Chandler.
"The decision to close the facility was made after careful consideration of all our options for increasing efficiency and customer service levels in our Americas business," Jim Smith, president of Avnet Logistics said in a statement. "We regret the impact this move will have on employees in the Grapevine facility, and thank the team for many years of support."
