Jan. 28--BIGGERSVILLE -- The Tennessee Valley Authority will begin this summer to acquire easements along a nine-mile route from Corinth to Biggersville to replace transmission lines and overloaded equipment.
The decision came after TVA had received public input on various routes for the 161-kilovolt line, said spokeswoman Myra Ireland.
Negotiations will be required on about 36 tracts of land for 100-foot easements to construct, operate and maintain the line. Property owners will be paid for the easements, but will retain ownership of the properties, the company said.
The line begins at TVA's Corinth substation south of U.S. Highway 72 near Harper Road and extends south and southwest 9.2 miles to a new substation in Biggersville to be built by the Alcorn County Electric Power Association east of U.S. 45 at Alcorn County Road 410. Construction work is expected to begin in the fall.
TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors like ACE Power that serve about 9 million customers in seven southeastern states.
TVA also manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries to provide flood damage control, navigation, water quality, recreation and other services.
